System Monitor Process SMON in Oracle Architecture

In Oracle Database Startup, SMON plays the major role. It helps in mounting and opening the oracle database.The task begins with identifying the required control file and then validating the existence of all the datafiles and log files mentioned in the same. After the validation check is done, it then opens the database to run the transactions. After the transaction/queries start running in Oracle Database, it helps in some internal tasks like maintaining the free space in datafiles etc.
