Overview to Oracle Process Architecture - Background Process Explained

What are the Background Processes that run in Oracle Server? What is their functionality?

Oracle Server uses multiple background processes which help in handling different processes simultaneously. These processes are capable of handling single user request or multiple user requests depending upon the environment need. These background processes are nothing but some consolidated functions which are handled by multiple database programs running for each and every user process. Background processes asynchronously perform I/O and monitor other Oracle Database processes to provide increased parallelism for better performance and reliability.

Enable OS Authentication in Oracle Database - Linux/Unix

Enable OS Authentication in Linux/Unix

How do we enable OS User Login Access in Oracle Database 11g in Linux? Can normal user like Oracle or Grid can login into Oracle Database 11g?

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts regarding - How do we enable OS Authentication in Oracle database 11g in Windows? - I showed you how do we manage to login via OS User into Oracle Database 11g

Now OS Authenticated Login in Linux is very similar to Windows except the fact that you don't need to mention the domain info while creating OS User in Oracle Database. So lets begin,

OS Authentication in Oracle Database 11g

OS Authentication in Oracle Database 11g - Learn how to perform OS Authenticated Login in Oracle Database

How do you create a OS Authenticated User in Oracle Database 11g? Can I login via my OS User in Oracle Database 11g? Login into Oracle Database using SQLPLUS /

Yes, we can create a OS Authenticated User in Oracle Database or in simple words, I can make my current OS User to login into Oracle Database without even providing the credentials. For this, I'll login like

Sqlplus /

There are basically 3 types of login scenarios that we follow in our local environment to connect to Oracle Database i.e.

1) Sqlplus / as sysdba
2) Sqlplus user@SID/Password or Sqlplus /@SID as sysdba or Sqlplus sys/***@SID as sysdba
3) Sqlplus /

Missing Redo Log Files at Oracle Database Startup

Missing Redo Log Files or Redo Log Files Lost at Oracle Database Startup

Redo Logs Contains info regarding the DML Statements that try to make some change in the database. Not every query gets stored in the Redo Log, only the transactions that creates change in the SCN of the database. And that is why these are also one of the important part of Oracle Database lose of which can lead you to database recovery as well as data loss (in instance crash scenarios).

There may be different scenarios to explain this issue but let's just take a simple one this time.

Delete Archive Logs in NOARCHIVELOG mode - Oracle Database

How to Delete Archive Logs when the space is getting consumed and you don't want to take the backup?

How to delete archive logs when the database is in NoArchivelog Mode? FRA is increasing, how to release space? How to delete Archive logs without taking backup?

While practicing Oracle Database Server, you might have thought about deleting archive logs without using them at all as they always keep on consuming your hard disk space.

Usually archive logs are very important when it comes to Oracle database, as they are main source of Oracle (RMAN) recovery scenarios. But this post is for normal learners who are practicing Oracle Database on their personal systems and are tired of increasing the Flash Recovery Area Size as soon as it fills up because of regular backups and archive logs.

Oracle Database Server Basic Structure for Starters

Explanation of Oracle Database Server - For Starters

How Oracle Database Server Works?

The Oracle Database Server majorly consists of two parts i.e.

1. Instance
2. Database

These two components combine to create an Oracle Database Server. Or simply you can say that

Oracle Server = Instance + Database
